Women\u2019s Day in South Africa isn\u2019t just another date on the calendar; it\u2019s a powerful reminder of our resilience, strength, and potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On 9 August 1956, more than 20,000 South African women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest the apartheid pass laws. Their bravery echoed across generations, captured in the timeless words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWathint\u2019 Abafazi, Wathint\u2019 Imbokodo!\u201d<\/strong> That spirit lives on in every woman who dares to rise to lead, to speak, to build something of her own. Women have not always been seen as entrepreneurs, leaders, or change-makers, but we have always been those things. Sometimes, we need the proper support to remember. For me, Women\u2019s Day is a chance to reflect on how far we\u2019ve come and recommit to how far we still need to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Inspiravit \u2013 Breathing Life into Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The word Inspiravit<\/em> means \u201cto breathe life into.\u201d This is at the heart of everything we do. Together with my associates, we partner with organisations doing meaningful work helping leaders and teams grow, thrive, and lead change courageously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our philosophy is simple yet powerful: when leaders are inspired, they inspire others.<\/em> This ripple effect, one leader empowering another, is how meaningful transformation begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Empowering Women to Lead Boldly<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n While I work with all leaders, I have a deep commitment to supporting women. Too often, women underestimate their voices or question their place at the table. I\u2019ve been there myself, doubting my value, hesitating to speak up, and wondering if I belonged. But I was fortunate to be surrounded by women who saw something in me before I could see it in myself. That experience shaped my mission: to create those same spaces for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a coach, I\u2019ve witnessed incredible shifts. One client, a senior leader facing a daunting global transformation, came into coaching hesitant about her ability to lead through change. Through our sessions, she stepped into her role with confidence, ultimately inspiring her entire organisation to unite around a new, shared vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another young woman I coached shared a powerful image of herself as a lion cub with a lioness standing protectively behind her. \u201cEveryone thinks I\u2019m the cub,\u201d she said, \u201cbut I\u2019m the lioness.\u201d Coaching helped her move beyond imposter syndrome, and today, she leads a global team with strength and authenticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Supporting Women Entrepreneurs: A Personal Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My passion for women\u2019s leadership doesn\u2019t stop at the boardroom. I believe deeply in the power of women as entrepreneurs, particularly those from previously disadvantaged communities who have not always been seen or supported as business leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A story close to my heart comes from the Eastern Cape, where I\u2019m from. I had the privilege of coaching a woman navigating the challenges of starting a business in a male-dominated industry. With determination and belief in her vision, she went on to launch her own construction company. It was a moment of transformation for her and me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWorking with Christine Wilke through the University of Stellenbosch Business School\u2019s Small Business Academy was a pivotal experience in my entrepreneurial journey. When we began, my construction business was still in its early stages. Christine helped me develop a clear strategic framework and align my goals for long-term growth. One of the most powerful moments was consolidating our work into a comprehensive business plan. This process not only clarified my business vision but also boosted my confidence to present to potential funders. Her patience, empathy, and practical tools gave me the clarity I needed, especially during emotionally challenging times. Christine helped me understand my business and myself in ways I never had before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Entrepreneurship is often a path to dignity, purpose, and independence. I\u2019m honoured to walk alongside women as they discover their power, create their opportunities, and build futures for themselves and their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lessons for Women Leaders<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the years, as a corporate leader, entrepreneur, humanitarian advisor, and coach, I\u2019ve learned that leadership is as much an inner journey as it is an outer one.
