{"id":2332,"date":"2026-04-21T09:29:52","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T09:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inspiravitconsulting.com\/?p=2332"},"modified":"2026-04-21T09:30:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T09:30:40","slug":"when-visualisation-and-positive-thinking-arent-enough-in-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inspiravitconsulting.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/21\/when-visualisation-and-positive-thinking-arent-enough-in-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"When Visualisation and Positive Thinking Aren\u2019t Enough in Leadership."},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"2332\" class=\"elementor elementor-2332\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-606a3a97 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"606a3a97\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7022546e\" data-id=\"7022546e\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5312a8a4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5312a8a4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In leadership coaching, I often invite leaders to visualise success.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To see \u2014 as clearly as possible \u2014 the future they want to create.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pictures is one of my favourite vision examples that came from a young leader who felt that others saw her as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cthe cute young cub.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her vision, however, was to become the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201ccourageous lioness who protects the young.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vision matters.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Positive thinking matters.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But on their own, they are not enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, I came across research by psychologist <\/span><b>Gabriele Oettingen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which prompted me to reflect more deeply on how coaching helps leaders turn vision into reality. Her research suggests that simply imagining success can sometimes reduce motivation. The mind experiences part of the emotional reward before the work has even begun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A compelling vision is powerful \u2014 but if it isn\u2019t paired with an honest look at what lies ahead, it can unintentionally create complacency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For leaders, this insight is important. Success rarely happens through optimism alone.
